For today’s tour we head up the majestic staircase to the 2nd floor. This level of the house contains 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a large lounge/gaming area and a very large storage area/play room.

Upper Floor Plan

At the top of the stairs is the mezzanine or upper landing area. This area has a full view of the great room and foyer downstairs while also having plenty of space for a desk area.

The mezzanine leads straight ahead from the stairs into the teen lounge – which could also be configured as a play area. This area is equipped with comfy arm chairs, and a wide screen TV and stereo. This room has a floor to ceiling, round top, south facing window nestled in a small cathedral ceiling design element. The room is large, bright and friendly.

This room offers entry into a very large storage/play room which could be configured for any number of other uses. Your kids will love this area with plenty of space to hide, make believe, play and run around.

Heading the other direction from the stairs leads past an upstairs bathroom to the boys bedroom. This 12′x 11′ room has an east facing window and window seat as well as an interesting half door into the play area. This room has excellent finishing with crown molding and a chair rail decorative highlight.

Past the boys bedroom is the little girls bedroom. This amazing bright room has a walk-in closet and opens onto the shared north facing deck with it’s own small outside seating area. Any little girl will feel like a princess in here, with plenty of storage space and room for dress-up clothes.

Outdoors is the upper deck that overlooks the back yard, with wonderful views of the estate valley below and all the way to the north shore Coast mountains.

Next door is the teen girls room with it’s own ensuite and walk-in closet. There’s lots of room for a makeup table and of course the bedroom opens out to the awesome upper deck. Imagine her very own bathroom!

Turning left from the entrance, again away from the grand spiral staircase is a small hallway that leads straight to the Office/Den. It’s a spacious room at 14’9″x12′ with 3 highlight windows for ambient light and a large storage area.

This room could easily work as another main floor bedroom with it’s own walk-in closet.

Right next door is the twin door entry into the magnificent master bedroom. It is truly a master bedroom with measurements of 14′x22’8″. Big! The room easily accommodates a King Size bed and has a small reading area, huge wardrobe and dresser, a large walk-in closet and a outside glass door to the covered deck.

On the opposite west facing wall, it’s all counter and rich dark brown oak cabinets with his and her sinks, 2 large, framed mirrors and a gorgeous contrasting variegated dark brown granite counter. It has a separate room for the water closet and lots of view windows with bi-directional blinds.

Today we continue our tour of the Grand Prize Home option in Langley…

We ended the last tour talking about the winding staircase which defines the majestic entrance to the home.

From the entrance… turning right brings you past the spiral staircase to the lower level, past a small receiving area with a coat closet and powder room and into the Great room and breakfast eating area.

Further right is the massive Kitchen, replete with granite topped island which houses the dish washer, cupboards, wine storage and seating for 3.

There is a huge built in fridge/freezer, double sized stainless steel gas range and oven (yes 2 ovens), oodles of counter space, abundant cupboard space finished in dark wood, all with a gorgeous view of the north shore mountains over the double sink.

With it’s homey feel and open architecture, this will be the centre of activity in the home.

Next to the Kitchen is a walk-in pantry, access to the laundry room and the mud room entry from the 3 car garage. This also ofers easy access to the formal dining room.

Directly adjoining the Kitchen is an eating area with a table for four. This table is right in front of glass double doors that lead out onto the covered back deck and affording more views of the back yard and North Shore Mountains.

Next the home opens into the Great Room… this is truly a Great room.

Top to bottom it’s packed with elegance and majesty, while staying comfortable. The ceiling is post and beam soaring above your head to a peaked roof across the centre of the room. The north (back) side of the room is set off with massive windows, again taking advantage of the hillside location of the home and it’s sweeping vistas.

The room has a floor to ceiling rock fireplace that augments the space without dominating it… the ceiling and windows define it. While the space is large, it’s still inviting, a place to relax in front of the fire, have a cup of tea and great conversation, or catch a favourite TV show.

Opposite the view windows, the spiral staircase defines the south end of the room.

Winner will choose 1 Grand Prize option, other prize options will not be awarded

We arrived on a sunny Sunday during the pre-launch for a tour… I didn’t think it would be busy but as we drove up, I was obviously mistaken. The place was packed!

The home itself is spectacular… in location, size, design and furnishings. It has a .6 acre fully landscaped lot and a 3 car garage, handy since you can choose to take a new Audi A5 with the home!

The outside is built with lots of columns, stone accents and steep intersecting roofs combined with rounded archways, windows, entrances and accents. To me, it is a striking mix of elements of Gothic Revival’s multiple steep roofs mixed with Cotswold Cottage stone, and rounded windows. Majestic yet welcoming.

There is a striking entryway into the home which has a large covered area to protect you from the weather. After the shoes off ritual (and noting which pair we would swap for on the way out…) we entered the rounded archway dominated entrance hall. It’s a wonderful frame to highlight the great room high ceiling, spiral staircase and huge view windows to come.

To the right is the nicely sized (15×10) and contemporary Dining area. It has another entry into the kitchen and lots of south facing, shaded windows.

To the left is the living/sitting room, with a fire place, lovely views, furnished with 4 lovely sitting chairs. The inset ceiling is a highlight.

Through the entrance hall, I was spellbound by the amazing spiral staircase. It dominates the center of the house and is one of the more striking features I’ve seen. It’s an aggressive full 180 degree sweep, richly finished in dark wood with carpeted stairs. With the Super high post and beam ceiling of the Great Room as a backdrop, the spiral stairs is a signature area of this home.

Winner will choose 1 Grand Prize option, other prize options will not be awarded
